Best Prices Today: Torras COOLiFY iva Handheld Fan

Summer has started with a blaze and superhot temperatures are warping our minds as well as the rail tracks. Swiping away with an oldfashioned paper fan doesn’t really do much except raise your body temperature with all the required hand waving, as well as annoy the person sitting next to you on the bus or across the desk.

A traditional battery fan is easier and takes the edge off the heat, but still isn’t enough to properly cool your brow.

In a stifling home, noAC office or at a festival trying to find a shady spot, something more substantial is called for to keep us cool. The Torras Coolify Iva is a sleek and powerful hand and desk fan that you’ll reach for when the temperature rises.

TORRAS

Design & Build

The aluminium alloy Coolify Iva fan is 15cm long, and the fan head has a 5cm diameter. At 182g (6.4oz) it’s one of the lightest we’ve tested: only the slightly heavier 184g John Lewis Anyday hand fan comes close. That’s about the same weight as the average smartphone.

It comes in three cool matt colors: white, grey, and pink. It looks solid yet light and even a little chic. Bystanders will marvel at its looks as well as envy the breeze. The pink version will go beautifully with your glass of blush rosé in the garden.

While the John Lewis Anyday hand fan is quite chunky at 25 x 11.3 x 2.5cm, the Coolify Iva measures just 15.8 x 5 x 4.8cm.

It has a handy carabiner clip so can easily attach to a bag or belt – something the Anyday fan sadly lacks.

The Iva can work as a handheld when you’re on the go or as a desktop fan while working or relaxing. As the Anyday fan is larger, more stable and physically adjustable, it works better than the Iva in desktop mode, but the smaller Iva is an easier carry and hold fan, although it is much pricier.

Performance

Looks aren’t the point, though. Does the Coolify Iva stop a sweat?

There are five fan speeds: 1, 25, 50, 75 and 100 (a 6m/s speed that Torras calls “hurricanegrade”). Underneath the speed control there’s a snowflake button to chill the airflow even further. I didn’t feel a great deal of difference between the breeze with ice or without, which is surprising as when I reviewed the Torras Coolify Cyber neck fan I could definitely feel the colder setting. The metal plate in the middle of the fan head does get properly chilly, though, with condensation quickly forming. Rubbing this part on your forehead will bring a moment of refreshing joy.

The breeze – iced or not – is strong and should cool you down fairly quickly,

But the Iva is noisy in operation: the hurricane setting sounds like a jet about to take off. It’s noticeably louder than the Anyday and audible enough to annoy fellow passengers or roommates. Outside, no one will mind unless the band at the concert you are attending is playing one of its slow numbers.

All that power requires a decent battery, and the Iva boasts a powerful 4900mAh capacity that you recharge with the included USBC cable (you’ll need a USBC wall charger, too, of course: see our list of the best USBC chargers). You can see the remaining battery charge through a clear digital display that also indicates the setting. At halfspeed the fan should last around 10 hours. The John Lewis Anyday fan has a battery half that capacity so requires a charging about twice as often. But it is a third of the price.

The Anyday fan comes with a USBA to USBC charging cable, while the Iva has the more modern USBC to USBC.

Should you buy the Torras Coolify Iva hand fan?

The Torras Coolify Iva is a handy lightweight hand fan that can also work as a mini desk fan. It is powerful, if you can handle the noise, and boasts a long battery life to cool you through the whole hot day.
