University of Nevada – Reno (UNR) is a public university that offers online degree programs at the bachelor’s and master’s levels. These online master’s programs typically require 30-36 credit hours, and students typically take about two years to complete. UNR accepts approximately 88% of its applicants and 60% of students graduate. Today, UNR has over 900 faculty members, teaches approximately 18,000 full-time students annually, and is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities in the region.

About 22,000 students take at least one online course at UNR annually, and the university offers over 200 online courses. For those interested in pursuing an online master’s degree, UNR offers programs in education (with specializations in literacy, information technology, and educational psychology), business administration, justice, social work, public health, and behavioral psychology. UNR also has an online doctorate in nursing practice.

UNR uses the Canvas learning management system for both asynchronous (you learn at your own pace) and synchronous (you learn with others in real time) online learning. The student-to-faculty ratio at UNR is 17:1. UNR provides financial aid options such as loans, scholarships, grants and loans. The university has online student resources such as technical support, tutoring, academic advising, disability services, veterans services, and a writing center. UNR also offers online graduate certificates, minors, and other non-degree programs.

Many online programs at UNR have several start dates throughout the year, giving students more flexibility. Admission requirements vary depending on the specific degree you are interested in, but in general, graduate programs require a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.75, official transcripts from previous schools, GRE or GMAT scores, a resume or CV, a statement of purpose, and three letters of recommendation. The graduate application fee is $60 and is non-refundable.

Like other online colleges in Nevada, UNR charges higher tuition for students who live out of state. However, if you are from neighboring states and studying at the undergraduate level, you may qualify for reduced rates through the Western Undergraduate Exchange.
