Joe Lycett is still eating out on his interview with Laura Kuenssberg when he caused a wave of outrage through the Tory party by mocking Liz Truss’ response to the energy crisis. On the BBC’s Politics show in September, the comedian sarcastically applauded Truss and shouted “you smashed it Liz”, as the interview ended from across the studio.
Asked what he thought of Liz Truss’ response during the interview, Lycett said: “You said earlier I’m not left or right. I know there’s been criticism in the Mail on Sunday about left-liberal woke comedians on the BBC. I’m actually very right-wing and I love it. I thought she gave good clear answers. I know exactly what she’s up to.”
Since then, Lycett’s has uploaded a tweet of a painting he has done of Truss with the caption “In Liz we Truss”, next to two British flags. His continued ‘support’ for the Prime Minister only seems to be increasing his popularity on social media, and apparently his ticket sales are increasing as well.

The Channel 4 Travel Man host tweeted: “FYI since coming out as a right winger my tour sales have exploded,” adding the hashtags “stay wake stay broke” and “fair play to Janet” in response to his comment about Janet at Kuenssberg’s show.
Fans slammed Lycett’s Tory-supporting charade, with one replying: “I booked tickets thinking you were left wing and now I’ve found out you’re a right wing comedian, I feel cheated and would like you sent me a full cash refund, but I’d still like to come and see you just to make sure you’re really right wing.”
During Truss’ speech at the Tory conference on Wednesday morning (October 5), she was interrupted by Green Peace protesters holding up a sign saying “Who voted for this?”
Of course, Truss’s twitter bodyguard Lycett was on hand to defend his favorite PM, tweeting: “Horrible that those dirty little vigilante anti-growth activists could interrupt the PM. I hope they were taken out and jailed and then deported. #Conservative Party Conference.”
The stand-up comedian is currently on tour and although he has already performed in London on his tour, there are still tickets available for his shows in Brighton later this month.
