Who doesn’t love seeing the words ‘free’ and ‘cinema’ next to each other? You can soon watch the award-winning The Iron Claw – starring Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White – before its official UK release (February 9) at independent London cinemas without paying a penny. What, how, why? Let us explain.

Supported by the BFI with National Lottery funding, Escapes wants to rekindle the love for our local cinemas. So you can enjoy big screen experiences and discover independent films for free, it’s teaming up with over 400 independent cinemas nationwide to offer screenings of the newest movies. Starting on February 5 with The Iron Claw.

Based on a true story, this heartbreaking sports drama will be the first film previewed in 126 independent cinemas – including Hackney Picturehouse, Phoenix Cinema, The Cinema in the Power Station and many more. The Iron Claw follows the inseparable Von Erich brothers, who made history in the competitive world of professional wrestling in the early 1980s, and their triumphs and tragedies.

Escapes has partnered with leading cinema chains including Picturehouse and Reel cinemas, as well as numerous independent venues across the UK, from Bath to Edinburgh, Manchester to Birmingham. More than 15,000 free cinema tickets are available. So whether you haven’t been to the movies in years or are a massive film buff just wanting to watch the hottest releases, don’t pass up this opportunity!

It won’t stop at The Iron Claw either. Escapes has a whole year of new releases lined up and every month will announce a new film to preview. Helping to make cinema more accessible, all Escapes screenings of The Iron Claw will be presented with descriptive subtitles on the screen.
