Us Brits are famed for stripping off as soon as there’s a substantial amount of sunshine, and there’s no better place to do so than on a nudist beach. Despite our notoriously unpredictable weather and reserved reputation, Naturist beaches have been around for a while in the UK, reaching their peak in the sixties and seventies. Nowadays, you’re never too far away from a nudist beach, especially if you’re close to the coast.

London isn’t too far away from the seaside, but its closest beaches aren’t known for being the best or most beautiful (although venture a little further and there are some fantastic options). However, an all-new study has ranked nudist beaches from across the UK to determine which ones are the best, and luckily for us Londoners, there seem to be a couple that are not too far from the capital.

The best nudist beach near London:

For the study, RANT Casino considered several different elements, diving into each beach’s average temperature, chance of rain, Instagram hashtags and Tripadvisor ratings. These were then used to conjure up an overall score and ranked accordingly. Of course, the first couple of beaches are a little bit too far for a day trip, but coming in at number three is Fairlight Gren in Hastings.

Located around 90 minutes from Londondepending on your transportation, the beach is beloved for its secluded atmosphere and stunning views of the surrounding cliffs. It’s an ideal location for those looking to disconnect and completely immerse themselves in nature. Both naturists and dressed-up folks are welcome to explore, but it’s not very accessible. With a winding pathway through rough terrain and steps throughout the hike to the beach.

The beach is a mix of sand and pebble, located near other standout beaches (although not naturist) like Black Rock and Covehurst Bay. Fairlight Green also boasts the lowest chances of rainfall this summer, with only 7.47 days experiencing some very British drizzle.

The other notable nudist hotspots:

Coming in at number one and taking the top spot when it comes to the UK’s best nudist beaches is Holkham Bay in Norfolk, followed by Vault Beach in Cornwall. As mentioned previously, these spots aren’t super ideal for Londoners due to their distance from the city, so we’re jumping forth to number six for another option that’s close to London.

Of course, the next beach on the list that’s close to London is Brighton Naturist Beachalso known as Cliff Beach, which is a popular destination for nudists as well as Brighton’s LGBTQ+ community. Boasting those famed pebbles in the plenty, the beach’s vibrant and welcoming vibe makes it a great option to liberate, strip, and dip this summer.

When it comes to getting to these beaches, there are several options to consider. From a coach trip to a quick dash on the train, both Fairlight Gren and Brighton Naturist Beach are easy to get to from London.

Both Hastings and Brighton are easily accessible from London by train. Direct trains to Hastings take around 1.5 to 2 hours, while trains to Brighton are quicker, taking around an hour. Driving to either destination is also straightforward, with routes via the A21 to Hastings and the M23 to Brighton. Both towns offer ample parking options, both in the town and near the beaches.
