It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmaseverywhere you go. But that’s the problem, I suppose. With so many sparkly spots dotted across the country, waiting to be explored this festive season; it’s rather tricky to know which of them should be plonked straight at the top of your must-visit-this-Christmas listisn’t it?

Festive-fanatics need not worry this year, though, as new research from Betway (because who else?) has recently revealed the best, brightest, and most brilliant destinations to head to this Christmas. And (as you may have guessed based on the title of this article and the slightly smug tone in which I’m writing it) London has earned itself a comfy spot on the list.

The study in question looked at 37 towns and cities from across the UKanalysing each of them using a whole host of Christmassy criteria. The destinations were ranked based on festive factors including average December temperature and snowfall, amount of cosy cafes to huddle up in, and online Christmas article volume. And the numbers were then crunched like a piece of gingerbread to reveal a list of the top ten most Christmassy destinations.

With an average December temperature of 7°C and an average snowfall of 9mm; London didn’t necessarily come up trumps in the ‘looking like it’s just jumped from the front of a Christmas card’ department – but the capital city certainly shone in other areas. Home to a whopping 3574 cosy cafes to huddle up in and enough media coverage to fill Santa’s sleigh; our lovely London found itself perched at number six on the list of the best festive destinations in the UK. And although we already knew London was worthy of a seasonal shoutout, it sure is nice to have it in writing, you know?

The most Christmassy towns and cities in the UK:

  1. Bowness-on-Windermere
  2. Bakewell
  3. York
  4. Keswick
  5. Buxton
  6. London
  7. Arundel
  8. Haworth
  9. Glasgow
  10. Edinburgh
