The The Elder Scrolls 6 just passed the embarrassing trailer milestone directly over its predecessor Skyrim.
Bethesda is next The Elder Scrolls the game was first announced alongside Star field in 2018, promising a new fantasy adventure in the studio’s own fantasy world.
After its announcement, updates on the new one The Elder Scrolls The game has been few and far between, but that hasn’t stopped fans from asking about the upcoming open world RPG.
The The Elder Scrolls 6 the trailer has crossed a huge milestone almost seven years after its release.
As discovered by Reddit user RoboPup, as of January 7, 2025 The Elder Scrolls 6 the trailer is now as old as Skyrim was when the (yet to come) next game in the franchise was first officially announced.
First The Elder Scrolls 6 the trailer debuted as part of Bethesda’s 2018 E3 press conference and debuted online on June 10, 2018 (that’s 2,403 days after Skyrimpublication 11 November 2011).
As of January 7, 2025, the trailer is officially 2403 days old, and there is no possible release date for the game in sight.
This gap in release announcements is a stark contrast to some of Bethesda’s newer titles. At the complete opposite end of the studio spectrum, Fallout 4 was released just months after its first debut in 2015.
Recently, Bethesda released their space travel RPG, Star fieldwhich was announced on the same day as The Elder Scrolls 6. Star field finally hit store shelves in September 2023, just over five years after it was first announced.
This is by far the longest wait between Bethesda release and release.
Fans have waited so long The Elder Scrolls 6 that some have forgotten the game is coming at all.
Over the past few years, the development cycles for triple-A games like this have gotten longer and longer (just look at games like GTA 6). However, The Elder Scrolls 6 is a unique situation.
Just because a game was originally released in 2018 doesn’t mean that proper development had begun when it was announced.
As of 2022, the game was “in pre-production” according to its director Todd Howard:
“Yeah, ‘Elder Scrolls 6’ is in pre-production, and you know, we’re going to be doing ‘Fallout 5’ after that, so our slate is pretty full going forward for a while. We’ve got some other projects, check out every now and then.”
Bethesda’s director of publishing Pete Hines revealed about a year later that the title had arrived “early development”, work on the game begins in earnest after release Star field in September 2023:
“So no, don’t expect to hear anything about ‘The Elder Scrolls VI’ any time soon. Right now, ‘Starfield’ is our focus and will continue to be our priority for a while until we talk about anything else. .It’s in development, but it’s in the early stages.”
This means that we are actively working on the knowledge of the fans Skyrim sequel, and the next title from the team at Bethesda Game Studios is actually The Elder Scrolls 6.
However, that is probably still years away. The gap between Bethesda’s RPGs has gotten longer and longer, with nearly eight years between them. Fallout 4 and Star field.
Pete Hines has said (via Gamespot) that it has potential The Elder Scrolls 6 the trigger will come “in a few years” Star field. It can be assumed that the next one will take about six to eight years to develop The Elder Scrollswhich seems to be the going price for games of this scale at this point.
If so, and the development started properly only after that Star field was made (September 2023), making a release date before 2029 at the earliest seems highly unlikely.
The Elder Scrolls 6 still no publicly listed release date.
