When Disney is ready to release Frozen 3 and Frozen 4the animation juggernaut reaches a new milestone never seen before in the company’s history.
Disney’s first two Frozen the films were both cultural phenomena, grossing over $2.7 billion worldwide at the box office (per The Numbers) between 2013 and 2019. To this day, they are two of the top five highest-grossing animated films ever made.
As such, it’s no surprise to see Disney continue to build on this franchise as often as possible. Disneyland seems poised to add a Frozen land on its park plans, but the plans aren’t really limited to fan attractions and theme park rides.
Frozen 3 & Frozen 4 Set New Disney Milestone
At Disney’s presentation at the 2024 D23 Expo, the studio announced its development plans except Frozen 3 but also Frozen 4. This is a significant milestone for the company, as it is the first time in the history of Walt Disney Animation Studios that any film will receive both a three-part and a quadquel.
So far, the only Disney Animation Studios movies that have even made it into sequels are Fantasy, Wreck-It Ralph and original Frozen. The next Disney Animation outing to get this treatment is Moanawith Moana 2 will be published on the 27 November.
In addition, Zootopia was confirmed to be getting a sequel in a report by Deadline in February, which is set for release on November 26, 2025.
Disney’s other animation studio, Pixar, produces more sequels. Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, Unbelievable, Car pool, and Inside Out all franchises have at least one sequel. Toy Story holds the record for longest sequel chain Toy Story 5 will appear in 2026.
The only Disney films to have had a sequel and trilogy in the past were Beauty and the Beast, Aladdinand The Lion King. However, all of these films were co-produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Disney Television Animation rather than Walt Disney Animation Studios.
Which Disney Movies Could Get Threequels?
Although Frozen is the first film in Disney Animation history to receive a three-parter or four-parter, the studio has been much more open to making sequels in recent years than ever before.
This could potentially lead to another wave of three films in the next few years, especially if the films hold up Moana 2 and Zootopia 2 to perform well.
Considering MoanaDue to its popularity, Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson’s franchise would seem to be the next logical choice to get a third film. Another possible option could be like a movie Charmwhich became an instant chart-topper thanks to songs like “We Don’t Talk About Bruno”.
Right now there is no way to tell what might happen Frozen 3 or Frozen 4 Considering that the third film is still well over three years away from its theatrical release.
Frozen 2 saw Elsa realize her place as the fifth spirit of nature and her ability to tame the spirits of the other four elements – earth, water, fire and air. He also learned the origin of his powers, which came from nature along with his mother after he saved King Agnarr’s life.
In the third movie, Elsa can explore her powers further and act as a bridge between humans and magical spirits in the world. The story will also likely follow Anna and Kristoff after their engagement and their control of Arendelle after Elsa abdicated.
