RG Live is delighted to announce that Varna International Ballet and Orchestra will return to the UK after a hugely successful debut in 2023. This season it will bring much-loved classical ballets The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake to London’s New Wimbledon Theater from . Monday, February 5 to Wednesday, February 7, 2024, and ticket information is available online.
The ballets coming to the city this season are listed below.
The Nutcracker
A famous fantasy ballet for the whole family begins as night falls on Christmas Eve. As snowflakes fall outside, the warm glow of the open fire sends flickering shadows across the branches of the tree and all the presents below. When midnight strikes, we’re whisked away to a fairytale world where nothing is quite as it seems, toy dolls come to life, the Mouse King and his army of mice battle the Nutcracker Prince, and we travel through the Snow Country to an enchanted place where the magic really begins.

Sleeping Beauty
One of all children’s favorite fairy tales, this is the classic tale of love and innocence, mystery and magic in Tchaikovsky’s sublime score. Stunning choreography, sumptuous costumes and gorgeous sets will represent the fantasy world where the Lilac Fairy battles the evil Carabosse.

Swan Lake
One of the greatest romantic ballets of all time is brought to life by Tchaikovsky’s haunting and unforgettable score. From the awe-inspiring splendor of the Palace ballroom to the moonlit lake where swans glide in perfect form, this captivating tale of tragic romance has it all. Between Odile, the temptress in black tulle as she seduces the prince by spinning with captivating precision, and the enchanted purity of the swan queen, Odette as she flutters with emotional intensity, the Odette/Odile dual role is one of ballet’s most unbeatable technical challenges.

About Varna International Ballet
Varna State Opera was founded in 1947 by the famous Bulgarian tenor Peter Raycheff. The greatest credit for the ballet group’s development goes to Galina and Stefan Yordanov, who were its artistic directors and choreographers for over 25 years, from 1960 to 1985.
They both formed the image of the Varna Ballet and brought it to the international stage, having also founded the now world-famous Varna International Ballet Competition in 1964. Since 2010, the Varna State Opera and Varna Drama Theater have been united in a cultural institute called the Theater and Music Production Center Varna.
