Did you know that there are more than 7000 skyscrapers in the world? Blimey, my neck aches at the sheer thought. From ever-so old to sparklingly new; those sky-high structures play a pretty gigantic part in the identity of a city. Because after all, what is a city without its skyline?
But which city’s skyline is the most gorgeous to gawp at of all? Well, online gaming site, Slingodecided to do a little bit of research to uncover the answer to that very question. Aren’t we lucky? They put the world’s most iconic skylines under the microscope, analysing social media data, the number of skyscrapers each skyline boasts, and how closely they match the ‘golden ratio’.
What’s the golden ratio, I hear you ask? Well, in archeological terms, the golden ratio is a mathematical constant that’s used to create well-balanced and good-looking structures. Still none the wiser as to what it actually means? Yep, same. But all you need to know is that it’s considered to be the perfect proportion in the world of art, design, and nature – and Slingo took it into account when conducting their study. Rather them than me, that’s for sure.
Unsurprisingly, New York City nabbed the skyline crown, earning itself a rather impressive skyline score of 9.68 out of 10. Possibly the most iconic skyline in the world, New York’s beautiful backdrop boasts a staggering 318 buildings over 150m tall and continues to attract visitors from far and wide.
Dubai came in at second place, narrowly missing out on the top spot with a score of 9.59 out of 10. Known for its futuristic buildings, innovative designs, and – of course – being home to the tallest building in the world (the Burj Khalifa); it’s not completely shocking that Dubai snapped itself up a rather comfortable spot on the list. And (sky)scraping the third spot on the list of the world’s best skylines is Chicago. The birthplace of the skyscraper scored a pretty impressive 9.10 out of 10having appeared in 375,000 Instagram posts.
And what’s missing from all of these findings? Londonof course. Scoring just 6.65 out of 10our capital city came in at number 12 on the list of the best skylines in the world. Can you believe it?

So, there you have it, folks. The best skylines in the world. Look, London’s trophy cabinet is already bursting at the seams – we didn’t need another one anyway (*she types as she tries not to cry*).
