Hugh Harris, lead guitarist of legendary indie band The Kooks, will play a swing night at a Hackney church. Harris will play with a 12 piece swing orchestra at St Peter’s Church, De Beauvoir Town on Saturday 13th April at 7.30pm to help raise money for the church.

The swing night has been curated by Harris, featuring a selection of classic songs from The Kook’s back catalogue, alongside his own solo material, swing classics with an original swing composition. Tickets are now on sale for just £19.67 and can be purchased here.

Big band swing has long been an interest of Harris and between his world tours he has played with famous jazz musicians. He also recorded a solo album in Havana, Cuba. The passion is part of an ancestral love of jazz that stretches back to his grandfather who used to fly to New York to watch his favorite jazz drummer Gene Krupa while he was stationed in Canada during World War II.

Harris’ soulful voice and his musical talent leading the world-class orchestra promise an unforgettable evening with yet-to-be-announced special guests also in attendance. With unforgettable nostalgic hits like Naive, She Moves in Her Own Way and Seaside that could be played swing style, it’s not one to miss.

All proceeds from the event will help support St. Peter’s Basilica, where the concert will be played. Serving its Hackney community since 1841, the church relies almost entirely on donations and what little income it can raise to fund its outreach programs. This included its warm hub and ward nurse.

The exclusive, one-off music event will allow them to continue to support the local community, maintain the historic building and fund new programs and initiatives.

Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Join Hugh Harris and his 12 piece swing orchestra at St Peter’s Church, De Beauvoir Town on Saturday 13th April at 19:30. Tickets are on sale here for £19.67.
