It’s a soundtrack that’s reached both ‘icon’ and ‘earworm’ status (yes, I’m still singing This Is Me passionately into the hoover whenever I clean the house, it’s a sickness), and whether you love it or loathe it, you can’t deny, The Greatest Showman is one of the most successful musicals of all time. And now, seven years after the blockbuster hit was released, the beloved musical is finally coming to the West End stageDisney confirms.
One of two upcoming stage productions set to grace London in the coming years, Disney announced the exciting news last week at fan convention D23, revealing that not only will The Greatest Showman be getting the stage show treatment, but Herculestoo.
Now in production with the Disney Theatrical Group, The Greatest Showman will be based on the film of the same name which follows P.T. Barnum, as he discovers his circus business and pioneers the world-renowned spectacle featuring unique talents and entertainers. It’s not known whether Hugh Jackman is involved in the project, however, we can reportedly expect the score to be developed by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the duo behind the original soundtrack.
It’s also not currently known when the show is expected to hit the stage, however, reports by the New York Post suggest we could expect the grand opening in 2026 – with early shows in Bristol, before arriving in London.
Herculeson the other hand, will open much sooner, with a summer 2025 run coming to Theatre Royal Drury Lane. The West End production will be based on the hit 1997 movie of the same name, following the demigod on his journey from ‘Zero to Hero’.
