A global aerospace and manufacturing company based in Gloucestershire is looking for new and experienced talent to join its ever-growing team of engineers.
An established and trusted manufacturer, Ontic produces and supplies quality aviation parts to companies across the globe.
The company is proud to build and manage everything in-house, once it acquires the rights to new product lines that would have originally been produced elsewhere, from manufacturing spares to maintaining and repairing in-use parts. With this, employees are able to get involved in a range of aspects and move to different parts of the business if they want to try something new.
In recognition of its brilliant work over the years, Ontic has received a number of accolades including being named as one of the ‘top 100 businesses in Gloucestershire’ by SoGlos 2024 and ‘best global aircraft parts manufacturer’ at the 2023 Business Excellence Awards, as well as currently being finalists for So Glos’ ‘Best Place to Work 2024’ and the Corporate Social Responsibility Awards 2024.
And this incredible success doesn’t signify growth for just the company, as Ontic continues to invest in its workforce along the way too.
With a host of development opportunities, a positive atmosphere, and even more benefits, employees at Ontic are nourished personally and professionally, and take pride working at the ever-growing company – as highlighted by employees themselves in recent surveys.
In Ontic’s 2023 employee survey, around 90% of the workforce said they feel they “can make a valuable contribution to the success of our organisation”, with 80% of respondents in its 2024 survey believing “work is meaningful.”
Opportunities to engage in a variety of work
Ontic’s operations and remit are a huge draw when it comes to working at the company, with hydraulics, mechanics and electronics to name a few.
With a varied yet carefully curated mix of products, employees are continuously afforded the opportunity to work on diverse projects and learn new things.
As a rising, fast-moving company, employees at Ontic are also empowered to take the initiative and make autonomous choices where possible, resulting in a feeling of shared responsibility and valuable contribution.
An employee in the 2024 survey highlighted: “There’s a real sense of community. [We have the] freedom to choose an approach to a problem, within a structure, and the ability to take a risk for the organisation, within reasonable guidelines, without a fear of repercussion.”
A sustained focus on career development
Committed to helping people grow and thrive, Ontic prioritises career development for its employees – both new and long-serving – through various training initiatives and support, offering flexibility and a tailored approach throughout.
In an effort to address the global skills shortage in the manufacturing sector and help build the technical professionals of the future, Ontic offers a number of in-house apprenticeship programmes, particularly focused on technical engineering placements.
On top of the technical training they receive on-site, Ontic’s apprentices all take part in the company’s Life Essentials programme which helps young apprentices, in particular, take the first steps in adult life as well as their careers.
With handy ‘cooking on a budget’ information sessions and age-appropriate financial planning workshops, the programme aims to go above and beyond a typical apprenticeship to help ensure apprentices are well-rounded, happy and healthy people who become highly skilled in their fields.
Chantal Taylor, learner liaison officer at Gloucester Engineering Training (GET), said: “Ontic’s apprenticeship programme is fantastic and we’re very proud to work with them as their training partner.
“Ontic recognises the importance of personal development alongside both academic skills and practical abilities, and their supportive programme ensures that each individual has the opportunity to flourish in their chosen pathway whilst creating great engineering talent for Ontic’s future.
“I’m also very impressed by Ontic’s pastoral care. They are very quick to react and support if an apprentice is facing life challenges or periods of poor mental health.”
What’s more, the company funds further education pathways where relevant, with many apprentices going on to complete degree qualifications, Higher National Certificates and Higher National Diplomas.
And Ontic’s efforts in this area have not gone unnoticed; it was awarded ‘best youth development’ at the 2023 Manufacturing Awards and ‘best apprenticeship in engineering and manufacturing’ at the 2024 Apprentice Guide Awards.
One employee in the company’s 2024 survey also commented: “Ontic is a great place to work, they have helped my personal and professional growth.”
Work for a company with a bright future
Ontic has grown significantly as a company since being acquired by its current owners in 2019, rising from 300 to 700 employees in Gloucestershire alone, and to 1,500 globally – a figure which is expected to double over the next five years.
The company’s growth and financial performance benefits employees directly too; every employee is automatically enrolled into Ontic’s goal share bonus scheme and will receive a bonus in line with its performance.
This only enhances Ontic’s ‘united team’ atmosphere, which includes members of management too. One employee said: “The environment is awesome – one of the best in an office I have seen and that is down to all the staff – and it’s brilliant how responsive management is.”
Help your future take off
With such a strong commitment to employee development and enabling people to reach their full potential, alongside its other offerings and established reputation, Ontic is a great choice for the next – or even first – step in your career journey.
