Oasis, the legendary Manchester band, return to the delight of fans up and down the country. The band will play a host of shows in 2025 with four shows at Wembley Stadium in London on July 25th, 26th and August 2nd and 3rd.

There are many Oasis songs that are huge hits with fans and the first album, Definitely Maybe, is widely regarded as one of the best albums of all time. Songs like Supersonic, Shakemaker and Live Forever are legendary tracks from the album and the most famous, but there is one song that has some connections to the capital.

In fact, the song is named after the place where the song was written and is also noted as one of the first songs Noel Gallagher ever wrote in Oasis. The fifth track on the album is ‘Columbia’ and this song is named after The Columbia Hotel in Lancaster Gate. The hotel has become known as the temporary home of many legendary artists over the years.

The Gallagher brothers and their Oasis bandmates are a group that stayed but they have also had Amy Winehouse., Iggy Pop and Stereophonics under their roof to name a few. Oasis stayed at the hotel when they recorded at a local studio and thus named a song after it.

The song itself has no reference or meaning to the hotel, with the meaning of the lyrics being ambiguous. They have previously said that the band was “all damn convincing” when they recorded Columbia which ended up on the demo they originally produced.

Original Oasis guitarist Paul “Bnehead” Arthurs has even called Columbia one of his favorite songs to play live. Entertainment website Joe quoted Bonehead as previously saying: “It’s always been my favorite song to play live. Always. It just goes on and on. Three chords, just meandering. When I heard Liam’s first vocal, if I had any hair, it would have moved the ceiling.”

The song has remained a fan favorite over the years, even though it doesn’t get the same spotlight that many other Oasis songs do. The hotel continues to serve Londoners and their guests over the years and is proud to remain a family run business with decent prices for being in central London.

You can find The Columbia Hotel at 95-99 Lancaster Gate, London, W2 3NS.
