Doing the weekly grocery store certainly isn’t cheap, with the prices of items continuing to rise. People are feeling the pinch in their bank balances due to the cost of living crisis, prompting people across the country to find ways to stretch every pound spent on food shopping and cut waste.
With that in mind, supermarket Tesco has offered valuable advice on a particular food item in a way that can positively impact your wallet and reduce waste. In an effort to stop us from tossing culinary staples into the bin prematurely, the supermarket giant is sharing some practical advice on its website. Today’s focus is on bananas, a popular snack that often comes to an early end due to unsightly browning or mushyness, according to Express.
But Tesco has an ingenious solution: freeze those bananas to enjoy them at a later date. “Do you only use your freezer for ice cubes and a packet of frozen peas? Wondering if you can freeze milk?” Tesco says on its website, adding: “Freezers are most efficient when full, so make the most of the space to prevent food waste and have ingredients ready to go from milk and cheese to vegetables and rice, your freezer can do it all,” Wales Online reports.
When it comes to ripe bananas, Tesco recommends peeling them before putting them in the freezer, either whole or sliced. When you’re ready to use them, they can be taken straight from the freezer and are perfect for adding to smoothies.
Frozen bananas are also a brilliant base for DIY ice cream. So if you’re looking for a tasty way to relax, this fruit has you covered.
