In our profile series, Tell Us In Ten, we ask cast members and creatives of top London shows to tell us all about themselves in just 10 questions. From how they got their start in the industry to their favourite shows, we want to know everything.
This time we’re chatting to Adrian Lukis who wrote and is starring in Being Mr Wickham. Adrian Lukiswho starred in the renowned BBC TV adaptation of Pride And Prejudice, returns to the role of Mr Wickham. Coming to the West End direct from a sell out run in Chichester, two sell out runs at Jermyn Street Theatre and a hit-run in New York from the award-winning Original Theatre.
1) My route into theatre was…
I fell in love with it all.
2) My West End idol is…
I don’t really have idols. Sometimes I see a performance so full of courage, talent and wit that I want to meet the performer afterwards.
3) My colleagues would describe me as…
Fun, I hope. Generous too, I hope.
4) My favourite show (that isn’t one I star in/work on) is…
Fallen Angels at the Menier. Unfortunately the run is over! But I wanted to give it a shout as it was so brilliant. I’m told that the current production of Arcadia is quite brilliant, so I look forward to seeing it, should it transfer.
5) The career moment I’m most proud of is…
Writing my own play.
6) The hardest part about my job/role is…
The ephemeral nature of it all. It’s an entirely inconsistent profession. Example: I was nominated for an Olivier award for The Price in London’s West-End then didn’t then work in a play (apart from Being Mr Wickham) for 7 years. Why? Who can say.

7) If I wasn’t an actor, I would be…
A writer.
8) Something people don’t know about me is…
I cycled across Australia.
9) The best piece of advice I’ve ever been given is…
Know thyself.
10) The one thing I wish I could tell my younger self is…
Don’t fret. Don’t worry that you are inadequate. You are not. Feeling fractured and not liking yourself is a lot more common than you think.
