Sweet Magnolias fans just got some pretty disappointing news thanks to Season 4’s latest release update.
Based on author Sherryl Woods Sweet Magnolia novels, the Netflix adaptation first hit the small screen in May 2020 and earned a 71% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes over its three seasons.
Netflix renewed the series for season 4 in October 2023, but with the renewal, no time limit was offered for the production or airing of new episodes.
New Release Update for Sweet Magnolias Season 4
According to Deadline, Netflix Sweet Magnolias will not return for Season 4 in 2024, disappointing fans hoping for the latest episodes of the series.
With season 3 coming to Netflix on June 20, 2023, this means Sweet Magnolias the release dates of season 3 and season 4 are at least 17 months apart.
This gap may still be smaller than between seasons 1 and 2, which fans had to wait over 20 months from 2020 to 2022.
When is Sweet Magnolias season 4 coming out?
Lucky for the fans, Sweet Magnolias The shooting schedule (according to What’s on Netflix) is from January 2024 to July 2024, which means it will go into pre-production this summer.
The real question now is how long after filming will it take for all the post-production work to be completed and Season 4 ready to be broadcast to fans around the world.
The second season of this series ended between April 2021 and July 2022, so only about four months were spent filming the footage. New episodes premiered on Netflix about seven months later on February 4, 2022.
Season 3 used a similar four-month time frame, filming from July 2022 to October 2022, arriving on Netflix with new episodes approximately nine months later on July 20, 2023.
With Season 4 taking longer to shoot than its previous two seasons, Netflix will likely err on the longer side of the release schedule and return with the next part of the story after about nine months of post-production.
Fans should probably expect Season 4 to arrive sometime between February and April 2025, marking a gap of nearly two years since the last season.
