What We Know So Far
The Hoxton Holborn’s Hox Sarnie Special series has become one of London’s better-curated food residency programmes, with previous guests including Auld Hag, Dr. Stings, and Rondo. Sonora Taqueria is the latest in the series, and arguably the most high-profile — the north London restaurant sits near the top of most credible lists of London’s best Mexican food.
The headline dish is a Barbacoa Torta Sandwich at £15: slow-cooked beef barbacoa, refried beans, avocado, red onion, escabeche, and grilled cheese. If you’ve eaten at Sonora, you’ll know that their slow-cooked meats are properly excellent — rich, deeply flavoured, and handled with genuine understanding of the tradition. A custom paloma cocktail completes the offering. The Hoxton’s lobby is a pleasant, buzzy space, and the combination of Mexican street food and a boutique hotel bar should work rather well.
