Sodexon Independents has secured a five-year contract worth £4.6m to provide catering services to St Leonards School in St Andrews.

Established in 1887, St Leonards School in St Andrews has 600 pupils aged 5 to 18, of which 150 are for school children.

With Sodexo, Independents by Sodexo will be able to introduce a new menu for pupils and staff at St Leonards School from 20 August, offering breakfast, lunch, dinner and options for morning and afternoon breaks.

Sodexo has committed to making 33% of its main meals plant-based by 2025. As part of this commitment, they’re launching things like grilled jackfruit, roasted pumpkin, and eggplant madras, among other vegan, vegetarian, and free-range options.

It also encourages the school’s catering team to minimize food waste and advises students to be careful when choosing their meals to avoid unnecessary waste.

Independents by Sodexo also provides the school with support for hospitality needs and special events such as sixth form balls and weekend match tees for sports.

Simon Knight, chief executive of Sodexon Independents, said: “We’re looking forward to the start of term and serving pupils with a brand new menu which focuses on sustainable, nutritious and delicious food.”

Last month, Sodexo announced a partnership with Great British Menu chef Kate Austen to create new dishes for its workplace catering offering.

The childcare service also recently signed an agreement with Oasis Restore, the UK’s first purpose-built safe school for incarcerated children and young people. As part of the agreement, Sodexo provides food services and hospitality training for students.
