Although live-action Snow White remake has been controversial, it remakes the story of Disney’s first animated film. Starring Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, the studio’s latest live-action remake also makes full use of the seven dwarfs from the original film.

Even the dwarves themselves have sparked debate among fans, as many wondered how that septet would be revamped for modern audiences.

Disney released a new trailer for the 2025 live-action Snow Whitewhich introduced the design of the film’s live-action dwarfs for the first time.

Following this trailer, fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their reactions to the new movie’s designs.

DisInsider co-founder Skyler Shuler praised Rachel Zegler’s voice, but thought the rest of the trailer didn’t look good, especially from a CGI perspective:

“‘Snow White’, I’ll say this, I love Zegler’s voice and I think he’s very talented, but everything else I saw from the trailer looks horrible from the scary CGI’d Dwarfs to the over-CGI world they built. I really hope they make ‘Aladdin’ (Genie) shop and clean this up.”

@atrileylad shared a photo of Bill Nighy’s Davy Jones from 2007 Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End to compare how good the CGI in the movies looked. Comment, “Oh How We Have Fallen” the comparison didn’t look good on them.

@AlsikkanTV felt that Disney “(sucks) cute out” marks indicating that a company left a mark:

“Why are they sucking cute on these things, like they’re supposed to be cute, that’s the whole point”

@HailKitchen can see why “some midget actors wear this down” offers a solution to have comedy legend Danny Devito play all seven roles:

“I understand why some dwarven actors think this is down and I also understand why others would kill for this level. My solution…Danny DeVito should have played all seven dwarves.”

According to @AutisticJoker45, Disney should be “hire real little people” to bring these roles to life instead of developing them with CGI:

“They should have hired real little people to play the dwarfs, NOT to play them”

@CooperKnox sarcastically thanked Peter Dinklage for his comments about dwarves taking “seven jobs from seven little people:”

“We all thank Peter Dinklage for acting like a spoiled brat and taking seven jobs from seven little people.”

@treystar679 also touched on Dinklage’s comments, slamming fans for their reactions when he thought that “Dwarfism actors simply deserve better” than “stereotypical roles like this:”

“I blame Peter Dinklage. Why did everyone on the internet look at a guy who simply said ‘Hey, I think Actors with Dwarfism deserve better than to be in stereotypical roles like this’ and say ‘YOU ARE SORRY HERE’?”

@MrXBob complained that viewers “I can’t even tell which is which” when you look at dwarves, I don’t like how common they seem now:

“The fact that you can’t even tell which is which. They had such specific patterns that now they’re just generic garden gnomes.

Why did Disney use CGI for Snow White’s dwarfs?

The easiest answer to why Disney used CGI instead of actors Snow WhiteThe reason for the dwarves is that the studio wanted them to look as close as possible to the original animated characters. With these models dating back to 1937, developing them digitally may have seemed like the only option.

This is especially true considering that CGI has been the route for other major Disney live-action remakes. of 2023 The Little Mermaid used this tactic for characters like Flounder and Sebastian and both 2019s The Lion King and its 2024 prequel, Mufasa: The Lion Kingcompletely filled their casts with CGI animals.

However, this move may not have been the right one this time, as people had options to play dwarves instead of animating. This is especially true in today’s age where representation has been a key focus for studios across Hollywood.

Considering how much controversy surrounds this movie outside of the dwarf design, Snow White can be a lot of uphill challenges as it seems to be Disney’s latest hit.

Snow White premieres in theaters on March 21, 2025.
