Nick Molyviathis, SIRICHAI KULARBWONG, and Alex Gkikas of Singburi

If you mention the name Singburi to anyone in London you’ll likely get a mixed response. One respondent will shout best Thai food in London! at you faster than that guy from TopJaw can ask his questions; a few will ask what’s that?; and the final common answer will be never been able to get a table 🙁.

Singburi has garnered quite a reputation in London since it opened in 1999, and many feared the worst when the cult Leytonstone restaurant had its doors shut for longer than usual following its usual winter sabbatical. Instead, they’re moving, with Singburi due to open up in Shoreditch this spring.

As it has transpired, the original Singbiri owners have now retired, passing on the mantel to their son and head chef Sirichai ‘Siri’ Kularbwong. He’s bringing friends Nick Molyvitais (of Soho’s Kiln) and Alexander Gkikas of Catylyst Roasters with him to team up for the launch of the next chapter for Singburi; which means an entire restaurant move and revamp.

The new Singburi 2.0 site will be moments away from Shoreditch High Street Overground station, and it also looks like it will no longer operate with the BYOB policy of the Leytonstone restaurant, with the new site set to serve alcohol.

The announcement for the new restaurant read: “Alex, Nick and Siri are poised to propel Singburi into a new era, at a brand-new site just moments from Shoreditch Overground station. The ethos will remain rooted in the spirit of the original while embracing a broader, distinctly London perspective.”

There is no official opening date yet, but a springtime launch has been earmarked. You can keep an eye on what Singburi are up to on their Instagram page for the new restaurant.

Singburi will move from its original Leytonstone location to its new Shoreditch restaurant site this spring.
