Stylish and comforting Italian winter menu in Knightsbridge

As autumn settles in, San Carlo in London has launched its winter menu, offering a sophisticated selection that combines comforting seasonal dishes with authentic Italian flavours. Located opposite Harrod’s in Knightsbridge, a London Christmas-time fixture, San Carlo Cicchetti fits well into its exclusive surroundings with a plush and softly lit décor.

To celebrate the launch of their Knightsbridge location, I was pleased to attend a media dinner hosted by San Carlo in their sophisticated private dining room at Cicchetti Knightsbridge in early October. This elegant space is perfect for events, business lunches or dinners, providing an intimate setting in an impressive location.

The winter menu features a wide array of carne, pesci, and dolci, each showcasing the high-quality ingredients Italian cuisine is known for. Starting with the appetizers, the Insalata Con Zucca is a standout—a vibrant and refreshing salad of butternut squash, beetroot, and watercress. The Fried Tomino & Truffle Cream adds a touch of indulgence with its crispy fried Piedmont cheese drizzled in rich truffle sauce. For a heartier option, the deep and rich Sourdough & Beef Stew presents Florentine slow-cooked beef atop toasted sourdough.

Pasta lovers are well catered for with some new additions. The Mafaldine con Ragù di Manzo features short wavy pasta enveloped in a rich, slow-cooked beef ragù. The Pappardelle all’Anatra, with its long ribbons of fresh egg pasta and delicate duck ragù, is another decadent option. For those not eating meat, the Ravioli Porcini offers handmade mushroom ravioli in a creamy porcini sauce, while the Risotto alla Zucca blends pumpkin and squash with vegetarian ‘nduja and fresh winter truffle is a delicious and comforting option.

We also enjoyed impressive carne dishes at Cichetti. The Agnello grilled lamb cutlets are marinated in sundried tomato and thyme, delivering a burst of flavour with every bite. The slow-cooked Beef Cheek was one of our favourites on the whole menu and is served with parsley, caper, and garlic gremolata that elevates the dish. For those seeking a burst of spice, the Manzo Piccante & Borlotti offers a spicy slow-cooked beef ragù with borlotti beans, complemented by Roman focaccia. Finally, the Salsiccia & Spinaci showcases specially imported Tuscan sausage served alongside garlic and chilli spinach.

From the pesci section of the menu, the Lemon Sole is a tasty option. It features pan-fried fish with capers and brown shrimp.

For Dolci, both the Frangipane alla Pesca (peach and almond cake) with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and Torta Caprese (almond & chocolate cake) with vanilla ice cream were a pleasantly sweet finish to our dining experience.

San Carlo London’s winter menu is a celebration of Italian culinary tradition. Whether you’re gathering with friends for a special occasion, or meeting with colleagues or business partners, San Carlo Cicchetti Knightsbridge is an excellent location to enjoy the flavours of Italy this winter. The classy decor enhances the experience, making it an ideal choice for both casual meals and important gatherings
