London’s sunny season certainly doesn’t hang about for long. And so from the very moment that the weather starts playing ball; you can rest assured that we Londoners will be spending as much time as physically possible outdoors, soaking up that sweet (but slightly sporadic) sunshine. If we fancy a drink; we’ll be in a beer garden. If we’re feeling peckish; you’ll find us perched upon a picnic blanket in the park. If we’re in need of some entertainment; we’ll be plonking ourselves down in front of an open-air cinema screen. And if we’re in the mood for a bit of a boogie? Well, folks, in the wise words of the Weather Girls – the street’s the place to go.
On August 2, a line-up of incredible intergenerational UK jazz acts will be taking to the street for Ronnie Scott’s Street Party. The legendary London jazz club is throwing the ultimate street party, and will be filling Frith Street to the brim with music and merriment. Just the way we like it.
Ronnie Scott’s Street Party
Featuring jazz performers, DJ sets, al-fresco bars, street food stalls and a whole host of family-friendly activities; the street party will be running from 11am to 5pm. And it will be completely free to attend. The event is taking place in conjunction with the Ronnie Scott’s Charitable Foundationand will celebrate and showcase the wonderful work that the foundation does to support jazz and music education for young people.
Having originally flung open its doors in the basement of 39 Gerrard Street in 1959; Ronnie Scott’s has been showing Londoners a good time for over 65 years now. Opened by Pete King and – you guessed it – Ronnie Scott; the beloved venue moved to its current home on Frith Street in 1965and has been going strong every since, with many famous faces having graced the stage over the years.
Artists performing at the summer street party include Jazz Jamaica, Theon Cross, Cosmic Fusion, Tomorrow’s Warriors, and Kinetika Bloco. And that’s just to name a few. The last time Ronnie Scott’s threw a similar al-fresco bash was back in 2019 to celebrate its 60th anniversary. Around 5000 people flocked to Frith Street to mark the occasion, and the much-loved music spot is expecting a similar turn-out this time round, too. There ain’t no party like a Ronnie Scott’s Street PartyI suppose.
Ronnie Scott’s Street Party will be taking place from 11am-5pm on Saturday, August 2. It is free to attend and no ticket is required. You can find out more here.
