Naturally, you would prefer to finish cleaning the floor as quickly as possible, which is why we are increasingly seeing wet and dry vacuum cleaners or unofficial attachments for Dyson vacuum cleaners. But last year the English brand unveiled the V15s Detect Submarine, which (like every other Dyson vacuum cleaner) vacuums wirelessly and mops floors using an official mop attachment – called ‘Submarine’. And yes, it does it quickly, but does everything really get clean?

Improvements to the interior and exterior

The vacuum cleaner to which you attach the attachment is the V15s Detect, the successor to the V15 Detect, which has been available for several years. In terms of appearance, hardly anything has changed; (fortunately) there is no break with the typical steampunk style that the brand has been using for years. In the box you get the Fluffy Optic attachment – which now makes invisible dust particles twice as clearly visible with a laser, which secretly makes vacuuming quite fun – and one for, for example, pet hair on softer surfaces.

Differences in the vacuum power compared to its predecessor are small (partly because it is already completely fine), but the V15s does charge a bit faster, which is nice because unfortunately you do not have the choice to use it wired, the battery always needs to be have some sting. During the vacuuming itself, the battery lasts about forty minutes, although this will become shorter after a few years and you will have to replace it. An interesting change is that the elongated attachment for tight spaces has been ingeniously integrated into the handle itself, which saves a few seconds of assembly time.

The star: the Submarine Brush Roller

But how does the Dyson V15s Submarine ‘Submarine Brush Roller’ perform? The way you use it is quite simple: you fill the reservoir with some water, mount it on the vacuum cleaner and start mopping. There is indeed no soap or suction mechanism involved, but according to Dyson, the rotating mechanism still makes the entire floor as clean as with soap, which has certainly proven to be true in our experience. You may have to roll over stubborn stains a little more often, but because of the flexibility this is not a big problem. After removing really noticeable stains from the floor, such as jam, it may still feel sticky, which you can solve by removing it a little beforehand or by putting some soap in the reservoir.

The dirty water collected by the cleaning head is in a second reservoir, which you must remove with some care after mopping. You then clean the reservoir with some water and soap, which is not always easy. The mop head itself must of course also be cleaned and then allowed to dry for a few hours. The durability of the mop head is also debatable, as the English company recommends replacing the roller every six months, which will cost you a few extra bucks on top of the already pricey purchase price. It might be smart to stock up on some rolls and have them on the shelf, so that’s it…

Price and availability

As with most Dyson products, the vacuum cleaner itself is extremely reliable, attractive and very powerful. But although the Submarine sounds good and does its job well at first glance, it can sometimes fall slightly short on stubborn stains and the cleaning process of the brush itself is quite a hassle if you want to quickly clean a small area of the floor. . These are otherwise small things, on an otherwise nice device. The advantage that you do not have to purchase a completely separate device is particularly appealing.

The Dyson V15s Detect Submarine, which is the entire package, costs 949.00 euros on the Dyson website. The mop attachment cannot be purchased separately and does not work with other vacuum cleaners from the English brand.
