It’s officially Pride Month, and with Pride in London just around the corner, the capital is getting a gorgeous makeover with an influx of radiant rainbows and flags from the entire LGBTQ+ communitytransforming the city into a vibrant dream of acceptance and colour.
One exciting collaboration between the Royal Academy of Arts, Art of London, and artist Adham Faramawyhas turned the West End into a colourful trail of reimagined rainbow flagswith an encompassing mission to represent all minority communities during this month of Pride and diversity.
Entitled Rainbow Flags, the innovative artwork features a stunning array of vibrant colours, blending and blurring into each other to symbolise the diversity of LGBTQ+ identities. Faramawy created the artwork from a regular LGBTQ+ rainbow flag, masterfully using colour and soft contours to reinvent the Pride Month staple.
Unveiled ahead of Pride and soaring until 1st Septemberthe striking aerial installation showcases the world-class creativity in London’s LGBTQ+ community, who will be able to witness these wonderful flags whilst striding down Picadilly during the Pride parade on 29th June.
Adham Faramawy said: “It is an honour to unveil ‘Rainbow Flags’ in the West End. I look forward to seeing the art soar above the streets this summer as a celebration of the reopening of the RA Schools and as a backdrop to Pride in London.”
Faramawy is a distinguished graduate of RA Schools, the longest-established fine arts school in the UK. His Rainbow Flags piece is part of Art of London’s fantastic lineup of public art installations for 2024 (and beyond), in partnerships with prestigious institutions such as Westminster City Council, the RA itself, and Heart of London Business Alliance.
His work will be on display above Picadilly throughout the summer, with original prints by Adham Faramawy available to view and purchase from the RA Shop online and Gallery X in Burlington House.
