The huge fish breaks records as it weighs in at a whopping 18-stone. It was caught off the coast of Cornwall and sold to Hartlepool fishmonger, Hodgsons, who supply fish to some of the North East’s top restaurants.

The enormous tuna fish cost a four-figure sum and will make up more than 200 portions across a variety of different dishes.

Osters, at Gosforth High Street, will feature the fish on its opening night menu next week. You can also sample the fish at Osters’ sister restaurant, Lovage, at St George’s Terrace, Jesmond.

It will appear on both restaurants’ a la carte menus, and in special dishes like tuna tartare.

Chef Kleo Tabaku, from Osters, said: “This is our first fish delivery for Osters but we weren’t expecting it to be something quite this size.

“It’s great news, however, because it means we can use it in a variety of ways in both restaurants. Tuna is such a meaty, versatile fish – we’re really looking forward to creating some memorable dishes for all of our diners.”

Osters will open on Gosforth High Street next week as a Scandinavian-style fish restaurant.
