Looks
Large. There is no getting over it; the latest Range Rover might have clean, minimal lines but there’s no hiding its height or length it’s over 16ft long. The sleek theme continues inside with luxurious leathers and woods, along with a touchscreen to control most of the cars functions and seats that feel like your favourite armchair.

Practicality
Its size means plenty of space inside, with option of a rear bench seat for three or two individual armchairs in the back. The boot is three times the size of a hatchback’s and the tailgate splits and folds down to make a bench handy for getting dogs in or out, taking your wellies off or having a picnic on. Even the most basic models are well equipped with leather seats, heated steering wheel and a premium audio system although it’s infotainment system is starting to feel dated. Extras include a fridge and seats that will massage you as you drive!

Driving
Once you’re used to its size and a combination of parking sensors and cameras, combined with good visibility helps with that a Range Rover is a relaxing way to travel. A range of powerful engines (including a hybrid) and a quiet, comfortable ride make this an effortless way to drive long distances. Range Rover’s legendary fourwheel drive now all electronically controlled means it will tow with ease, take you offroad and give extra confidence in bad conditions.

Safety
The Range Rover is one of the safest large 4x4s with a full fivestar Euro NCAP safety rating and a high score for pedestrian protection. Electrics monitor the car, those around it and the road surface, to alert the driver to dangers like a car approaching too fast from behind.

Running Costs
The Range Rover is a large, luxurious, well equipped car and it’s price reflects that as do its running costs. Road tax bills are high and fuel economy is poor even in comparison with many of its large 4×4 rivals the 3.0litre diesel is the most economical choice, Land Rover claim it will give up to 41mpg.

GH Verdict
It’s in a class of its own, but makes a statement that won’t appeal to everyone.

Also Consider
Mercedes GLclass or Audi Q7

Prices range from £73,950 £100,350 landrover.co.uk
