Pret A Manger scraps its five free coffees per day. Instead, Pret introduces a 50 percent discount on drinks for its subscribers.

Currently, the Club Pret subscription, which offers subscribers five free coffees a day, costs £30 a month.

From September 3, the monthly price will drop and the benefit subscribers will now get 50 percent off drinks instead of at home. In parallel with this, the existing food discount of 20 percent will end.

Clare Clough, managing director of Pret UK and Ireland, said: “We know this is a change. But with a Club Pret subscription, our coffee, tea, coolers and iced drinks will continue to be the best offer on the high street, and at a much more affordable price than the £360 a year people have to pay for the current system.

“Given that the majority of our customers are not Club Pret subscribers, our priority now is to focus on better value for everyone.”

These changes follow actions taken by Pret earlier this year when they tightened enforcement around sharing the free coffee. Back then, a simple QR code scan, available through the Pret app or saved to Apple Pay or Google Wallet, was all it took to claim the free drink.

Club Pret members must now log into the Pret app each time they want to claim their free drink.

In better news, Pret has today announced that it is dropping the price of its filter coffee from £1.80 to 99p from today, and its croissant altogether will be available for £1.99, down from £2.30.
