Popeyes has announced that it is opening 30 new restaurants this year. The expansion plans mean the chain will almost double in size, with 2,000 jobs created.

When Popeyes first came to the UK at Westfield Stratford, customers queued for hours to get their hands on their famous fried chicken sandwiches. People left honest reviews and three years in business it’s still thriving.

There are now 17 Popeyes locations in London, including delivery kitchens. And this week two more are opening.

The new Ilford site, located on the High Road, is already open according to the restaurant’s website. Another branch in Hammersmith’s The Broadway Center is set to open its doors this week.

Tom Byng, head of development at Popeyes, said: “We opened our first store in November 2021, to huge hype and acclaim, and customer appetite shows no sign of slowing down. To date, we’ve opened 38 locations up and down the country and converted legions of fried chicken fans to Popeyes.

“We’re excited to give even more people their first taste of New Orleans as we double our property in 2024. We’re especially proud of our geographic spread of expansion, including our first-ever travel restaurant in Waterloo station, which will fuel hungry travelers with good food and a dose of the famous New Orleans spirit.”

While there is no date for the Waterloo branch’s opening, Popeye’s website indicates it can be expected sometime after February 28. It will be at The Colonnade.
