We’ve all been told it’s best to start the year slowly and calmly, which is why saunas are very much ‘in’ during the month of January. And ice baths. Lots of people are talking about the benefits of ice baths.

Anyway, these may often seem like things you need to join an expensive gym for, but throughout January and into next month, you can enjoy a pop-up sauna and plunge pools for just six quid an hour. All from London, all in a set of Scandinavian-inspired wood cabins.

What can you find at the city centre spa?

Slow Motion Sauna has arrived in King’s Cross, bringing a woodland spa day to the centre of the city. It comes in collaboration with DJ and Wellness Guru Rob da Bank and his wife Josie, who own two saunas. One is a Lithuanian wood-fired, and the other is an electric sauna gifted by the Finnish institute, with both setting up shop between January 18 and February 11. Warm up before you dive into the chilly plunge pools (as if it wasn’t cold enough outside!) and cleanse yourself ahead of an entire year staring at you.

This is just the start, too, as the sauna pop-up arrives as part of a three-month campaign called ‘Mind Your Brain’, which comes after findings from Alzheimer’s UK found that 98% of people in Britain could do more to take care of their brain. Sauna and plunge pool combinations have been found to have benefits that are threefold: reducing brain inflammation, improving blood flow, and enhancing cell function.

Whether your having a Dry January, a damp one, or a month that’s simply business as usual, we can all use that holy trifecta to give our minds a bit of care. Plus, one you’ve left the plunge pool, the experience offers an exfoliating salt scrub and shower.

Rob da Bank, said: “We cannot wait to bring our two beautiful saunas and wild spa to King’s Cross in what can be the challenging month of January. Not only are sauna and ice baths amazing for your mental and physical health but they are such a great place to hang out with friends, meet new people and challenge yourself a little bit. You will leave the Slow Motion Sauna at King’s Cross literally glowing!”

Slow Motion Sauna will be open in King’s Cross in Lewis Cubitt Square between 11am – 7pm on January 18 to February 11. Each session lasts an hour and costs £6 – those who wish to book in a session are also advised to do so through the website. Customers will need to provide their own swimming gear.
