The Range, Amazon and Argos have slashed prices on Philips’ ‘wet and dry’ electric shaver which some shoppers say gives them a ‘nice close shave’. Philips Shaver Series 5000 is £140 off.
The Series 5000 is currently cheapest on The Range at £69.99. This is even better than the January sale, where it was cheaper than everywhere except Boots (who were selling it for £59.99 – now it’s £149.99). On Amazon it costs £84.99 in the sale, but is now discounted to £99.99, although you get a charging case. It is also currently available at Argos (£75) and direct from Philips (£89.99).
With the same number of blades as the more expensive Series 7000, they have rated this lower on their “Anti-Friction” and “Close Shave” ratings. It also has 50-60 minutes of battery life, placing it between the Series 7000 and Series 8000.
The shaver has 4.4 out of 448 reviews on Amazon, 4.2 out of 133 reviews on Boots, 4.4 out of 346 reviews on Argos and 4.3 out of 626 reviews on Philips.
One person wrote: “Never had such a good shaver, close every time, you get what you pay for I think it’s worth every penny. A joy to use and hold. Easy to clean and maintain, no downside at all. Very happy with that.” Another added: “To be completely honest this is the best electric shaver I’ve ever used. It’s comfortable for a really close shave and easy to clean. 5/5 in my books!”

A less satisfied person added: “I was hoping for a good shave though as my whiskers are so strong after shaving since the age of 16 and now 87 that they clean the surface of my face but don’t give a close shave. ” Another said: “Nice to handle, but no difference in the quality of the shave compared to my older version.”
It’s currently halved, down from its original price of £109.99 to £54.99 on Amazon. This makes it cheaper than the same product at Boots (£119.99). The razor promises 45 minutes of shaving without loss of performance, and has a quick charge option to give you a close shave. The Braun razor is very highly reviewed, with 4.4 out of 6,044 ratings on Amazon, 4.5 out of 160 reviews at Currys and 4.2 out of 372 reviews at Boots. The Philips shaver has a 4.3 out of 110 rating on Amazon, 4.7 out of 109 reviews on Philips and 4.8 out of 104 reviews on Very.
