Comedy legend Peter Kay has performed a “secret” stand up show which fueled excitement that the Car Share star could be set for one of the biggest ever comeback tours. The comedian reportedly tried out some ‘new material’ at a gig in Salford this week, teasing the crowd with his latest observations.

Kay had previously staged a comeback tour in 2018 with fans excited to see the Bolton-born standup back in action, but due to unforeseen personal circumstances it was cancelled. But now the Phoenix Nights man could make the much-anticipated return we’ve all been waiting for, after news broke of his latest appearance on stage.

A lucky fan who witnessed the performance took to twitter to share her excitement. After admitting she believed it was a hoax, she also revealed that phones had to be put in bags to keep the material secret.

Peter Kay's 2018 comeback tour was canceled due to "unforeseen family circumstances"

Paula wrote: “Omg just been to a secret gig with Peter Kay at The Lowry. Best night of my life ever, that guy is a legend. Phones in locked pounces, secret ticket collection, loads. Still buzzing.” She continued: “It was the weirdest but best experience ever,” another Twitter user replied.

In another tweet, without revealing any of the material itself, she added: “We felt really lucky. He had been on the night before so I’m not sure how many of these little gigs he does but the whole room was giddy. It was brilliant.”

When Kay announced the cancellation of his 2018 tour, he cited family reasons as the explanation. Apologizing to fans, the comedian issued a statement saying, “Due to unforeseen family circumstances, I deeply regret having to cancel all of my upcoming work projects.

“This unfortunately includes my upcoming stand-up tour, Dance For Life shows and all outstanding live work commitments. I apologize. This decision was not made lightly and I’m sure you will understand that my family will always must come first.”

He made a brief return to the stage earlier this year with the return of his Dance For Life show in aid of Cancer Research UK, but could we be in for a comeback tour in 2023? We would love to see it.
