OmVed Gardens is an oasis of beauty and calm in north London which runs a seed bank, cafe, exhibitions and workshops.

And they are inviting the public to a free spring open day on March 21 from 11am.

The community event celebrates the spring equinox and offers the chance to browse the library, swap seeds, wander around the green space, and enjoy seasonal refreshments.

Taking over a former garden centre and nursery, OmVed is a three-acre garden, exhibition space, and learning centre exploring ecology, food and creativity.

Describing itself as a “small garden with big ideas”, it is tucked away behind Townsend Yard and includes a vegetable and ‘sky garden’, ponds, wildflower meadow, willow circle, orchard, a greenhouse, barn and gallery.

Throughout the year visitors can book workshops and sessions in the likes of fermenting, food growing, nature painting, creative writing, meditation, and pond dipping.

The idea is to create a space where people can get close to nature and think about healthy eating and climate resistance.

During the open day visitors can explore OmVed’s latest exhibition, a solo show by Bisila Noha, a Spanish-Equatoguinean ceramic artist, researcher and writer.

House of the Soul features work in clay, plaster, bronze and wax accompanied by a specially designed soundscape.

Other events coming up at OmVed include a Spring Supper Club on March 26 with a three course plant based meal drawing on the wild and native ingredients grown in the garden or sourced from local farmers, and the Wild Willow Art Club for young children.

OmVed Gardens is at 1, Townsend Yard, Highgate. Tickets for the Spring Open Day are free but must be booked via omvedgardens.com
