Liam and Noel Gallagher have buried the hatchet of the 15-year feud between the brothers and announced a brand new Oasis tour next year. During their incredible success, few things have changed for the legendary band in terms of personnel.

The band started in 1991 with original members Liam Gallagher, drummer Anthony ‘Tony’ McCaroll, guitarist Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs and bassist Paul ‘Guigsy’ McGuigan. Noel joined later in 1992.

Since then, there have been quite a few changes in the band so fans are questioning who will actually be playing next year.

Who is the drummer for Oasis?

The drums have been the most contested position in the band during the group’s tumultuous career. They have had four games for them, two of them being official members and two employed as touring members.

The original drummer was Anthony ‘Tony’ McCaroll from 1991 to 1995 when he crashed out of the band with a good degree of hostility.

McCaroll’s simplistic drumming was openly criticized by Noel Gallagher who said: “I like Tony as hell, but he wouldn’t have been able to drum the new songs.”

As a result of the hiatus, McCaroll tried to take the band to court for £18 million – with lawyer Jen Hills famously securing a £2 million payout for former Beatles drummer Pete Best in 1995. It ended up being settled out of court for an estimated £ 550,000, said Music Radar.

McCaroll was replaced by the more skilled Alan White from 1995 to 2004 – the longest tenure of any of Oasis’ tenures. McCaroll has largely stayed out of the spotlight. He backed Wonderwall and Don’t Look Back in Anger and several other big hits.

However, this ended rather abruptly in 2004 when a spokesperson for Oasis reported “Alan White has been asked to leave Oasis by the other band members. There are no plans to replace Alan. The band’s scheduled recording sessions remain unaffected.”

Not much more explanation was involved

He was replaced by Zak Starkey – son of Ringo Starr. He drummed on tour for the band from 2004 to 2008 but was not an official member. He drummed on the Don’t Believe the Truth album but his tenure ended in 2008. Starkey now plays for The Who.

Chris Sharrock was the last drummer in the band from 2008 to 2009. He has actually worked with both Liam’s band Beady Eye and Noel’s band High Flying Birds during their post-Oasis careers. It is likely that Sharrock may return with the band with this strong working relationship.

Who is Oasis’ guitarist?

Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs was an original member of the band in 1991 and is expected to return with the band on tour next year, The Mirror reported. The guitarist was reportedly a driver behind the reunion and “Both Liam and Noel) wanted him in the fold and he was one of the drivers behind the reunion,” a source told The Sun.

However, Bonehead is not actually the newest guitarist for the band, nor the longest serving. He left the group in 1999 and was replaced by Gem Archer until 2009 when Noel left. However, Liam has remained close friends with Bonehead and played with him earlier this year on his Definitely Maybe tour.

Who plays bass for Oasis?

Paul ‘Guigsy’ McGuigan was also an original member and played until 1999 as Bonehead. He left the band just two weeks after Bonehead’s departure in a unique way. He allegedly faxed his former bandmates a notice of his resignation, Noel said. He has since stayed out of the limelight and moved to North London.

Liam remarked: “Haven’t seen him since he left the band (1999) and he just lives down the road.”

He was replaced by Andy Bell who played with the band until their break-up in 2009. He is expected to return with them on the upcoming tour.
