A view across Lake Windermere

You won’t be needing a magic mirror to tell you which British vista is the fairest of them all, because the judge of this particular beauty contest is car insurance company, GoShorty. They recently took it upon themselves to uncover the 10 most jaw-droppingly beautiful views in the entire country. And – spoiler alert – not a single one of them is in (or even close to) London. Can you believe it? But we’re not bitter over on this corner of the internet, so we’re going to tell you which views made the cut, in case you fancy taking a little trip to feast your eyes on them yourself.

From the very top of the Scottish Highlands to the very bottom of the Cornish coast, the UK boasts some undeniably impressive landscapes. But although many of them are utterly gorgeous to gawp at – which one took the crown as Britain’s best view of all?

2000 Brits were asked to put their two cents in on the matter, with each of them choosing their favourite view in the country. GoShorty then ranked the most popular picture-perfect panoramas and popped them in a handy little list for us. And topping the charts as the best view in Britain is Lake Windermere. Up in the dreamy Lake District, England’s largest lake is surrounded by gorgeous rolling hills, quaint little villages, and the kind of countryside that looks like it’s come straight off the front of a post card.

The only national park in Wales came in at second place. Snowdonia spans a whopping 823 square-miles of mountains, lakes, forests and coastlines – and really is very gorgeous. The third spot was nabbed by Loch Ness up in the Scottish Highlands, with its sweeping views, beautiful beaches and magical waterfalls.

The best views in Britain, according to GoShorty:

  1. Lake Windermere, Lake District
  2. Snowdonia, Wales
  3. Loch Ness, Scottish Highlands
  4. St Michael’s Mount, Cornwall
  5. The Yorkshire Dales
  6. Durdle Door, Dorset
  7. St. Ives Bay, Cornwall
  8. The Jurassic Coast, Dorset
  9. The Three Sisters, Glencoe Valley
  10. Cheddar Gorge, Somerset

Have a peruse of GoShorty’s full findings here.
