Arts Professional is read by the people who lead and shape the UK arts sector, in arts organisations, governments, funders, suppliers, and academia. We are looking for an experienced journalist to lead our editorial team.

We are the independent voice for professionals working in arts and culture. Arts Pro  publishes news, features, and research-based reporting on subjects including arts funding, digital, cultural policy, workforce diversity, audience development, income generation and the value of creativity in our communities. We provide guides and resources across a wide range of professional practice.

Our readership spans leaders of arts organisations, funders, freelancers and suppliers to the sector, across all art forms, and continues to grow.

In the past 12 months, Arts Professional has been cited in the biggest independent review of Arts Council England in recent years, and in the House of Lords. This year we will host our first Business of the Arts Summit, bringing together 200 leading sector figures to discuss the business models which will see arts and culture succeed in challenging economic times.

The role

You will lead a small news team of two full-time journalists, supported by freelance writers. This involves setting the news agenda, commissioning and editing stories, and maintaining editorial standards.

You will also write and report, breaking stories, pursuing investigations and developing journalism that influences policy and practice across the sector. We pride ourselves on agility and responsiveness, and this role has significant delegated responsibility to innovate.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for an experienced news journalist, preferably with a B2B or specialist media background, with a thorough understanding of journalistic values and best practice. You will be comfortable producing high-quality copy at pace and familiar with the fundamentals of digital publishing.

Prior knowledge of the arts sector is a strong advantage, but not essential if you bring strong journalistic instincts and curiosity for the cultural sectors.

You set high standards for yourself and others, and are ready to step into an editorial leadership role.

Salary and benefits

Arts Professional is part of an employee ownership trust with no private owners or shareholders. Benefits include:

  • 25 days’ annual leave, plus bank holidays, an additional day at New Year and any Christmas office closure. Entitlement increases with length of service.
  • A high degree of flexibility.
