The new music video from rappers Ice Spice and Central Cee has featured a very unusual location for the two stars – Walthamstow Village. ‘Did It First’ is a new track from 24-year-old Ice Spice.

The New Yorker chose to show parts of the music video on Orford Road, a row of quaint shops and restaurants, in East London. Shortly after the music video begins, she is seen outside The Village Bakery in Walthamstow Village, wearing a bright orange wig and light pink tracksuit.

The camera cuts away but returns to the rapper dancing outside the store, while giant pink CGI hearts pulse in the sky behind her. She is then seen walking down the street, looking back over her shoulder at the camera as she says: “I don’t care, because he did it first”.

The music video has certainly made an impact – the official video currently has nearly 7 million views on YouTube after being released on July 12, just four days ago. But Walthamstow locals have not shared the same excitement, with others a little puzzled by the American rapper’s choice of venue.

On Facebook, one person said of the video: “All places in Walthamstow.” Another added: “So random…”. Many locals seemed to have no idea who Ice Spice even was.

An employee of hometipple wine shop on Orford Road said they saw a crew outside the Queen’s Arms filming for just one day. He said, “There were twelve to fifteen crew members, but they weren’t here very long.”

And at the Peeld restaurant, another worker said she saw the recording about two weeks ago. “It was fairly recent,” she said. However, they could not see much of what was going on.

But the location is apparently quite popular with film crews. The home staff said: “There’s quite a lot of filming going on at Orford Road. This was relatively small scale.”
