A new off-licence is to open in Hayes, West London after the council granted an application to open seven days a week to sell alcohol until midnight. The new store, called Daman Food & Wine, will open on Dawley Parade in Hayes after Hillingdon Council’s Licensing Sub-Committee granted the application on Monday (October 21) subject to conditions.
The store will be open and able to sell alcohol from 07.00-24.00 every day of the week. Conditions include installation of additional CCTV, presence of two staff members daily at 18.00-23.00 and staff attendance at a conflict resolution course within 28 days.
There was previously an off-license in the same premises called Ur Local. This store traded under the same conditions and times as the new license grants. The store was closed and the license surrendered after the owner could not afford the new rent demands from the landlord.
There had been two objections from local residents, but before the hearing one of these objections had been withdrawn. An objection had come from a local business owner who felt that if Daman Food & Wine was granted a license to sell alcohol, his business would be affected.
Mr Banjan Singh, owner of a grocer on Dawley Parade, said in an email to the council: “There is already an off-licence and grocer … if another opens next to my shop it will knock my business down and take my current customers and it will affect my (me) financially a lot.” As this was not considered relevant to the permit objectives, it was not included in the decision.
One local resident objected on the grounds that there is already “traffic, noise and a lot of fighting” in the existing car park. The applicant will consider converting a yard behind the shop to provide car parking to alleviate residents’ concerns and reduce pressure on the car park.
