An immersive exhibition exploring the life of ancient history’s most famous queen promises to transport visitors to the towering obelisks and torch-lit palaces of Ptolemaic Egypt. ‘Cleopatra: The Experience’ will open its doors at Immerse LDN at Excel London Waterfront on Thursday, March 26, for a 15-week run.

Covering 3,000 square metres and with nine interactive galleries, visitors can walk in Cleopatra’s footsteps in ancient Egypt as they learn all about her reign and life story. The exhibition has been compiled by Egyptologists, with oversight from Dr Chris Naunton, an expert on Cleopatra’s life.

The exhibition uses the latest projection technology to allow ticket-holders to see the world of Cleopatra as it might have looked. General admission tickets are priced at £27 for adults, £22 for children and £24 for seniors and students. Schools can apply for a special group booking rate by emailing tickets@fkpscorpio.co.uk.

Entering through the setting sun, visitors will relive the full story of the Ptolemaic dynasty, from its founding with the arrival of Alexander the Great to its final days with Cleopatra as the last Pharaoh.

The free-roaming Metaverse space allows guests to explore the catacombs of Alexandria, get up close to Alexander the Great’s coronation at the Siwa Oasis, and step inside Mark Antony’s tent during the Battle of Actium, before entering Cleopatra’s royal palace to witness her gazing out over the Bay of Alexandria and her treasured library, as well as the fabled Pharos Lighthouse – one of the seven wonders of the world.

Ticket-holders can enter Cleopatra’s private chamber, stand before her interactive mirrors and watch as Cleopatra unveils the secrets behind her allure, learn her elaborate makeup and hairstyles techniques, and the symbolism these held in ancient Egypt. The experience is enhanced with 5D sensory elements including atmospheric scents.

The penultimate gallery features a 360-degree map where guests can soar over the city of Alexandria and witness the queen’s coronation, as well as enter the enigmatic Temple of Isis and pass through the Library of Alexandria before reliving Cleopatra’s alliance with Julius Ceasar, her love story with Mark Antony and finally, the epic final Battle of Actium which sealed her fate.

In addition, 22 original artefacts from the late Egyptian period will also be on show, including terracotta sculptures, bronze deity figures such as Isis and Osiris, glass mosaic fragments, cosmetic vessels, and a previously unpublished group of demotic papyri.
