If, like us, you couldn’t get enough of the Twilight series of books or movies, it looks like it’s time to go back to Forks, Washington, as a TV reboot is coming to our screens.

This isn’t the first massively successful movie series to be turned into a TV show recently and it appears that it won’t be the last. Because yes, a TV version of Harry Potter is also coming, while the second series of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power just landed on Prime Video.

But let’s just say, Twilight getting a reboot was not on our bingo card. I mean, can anyone replace Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen? We will have to wait and see. Here’s what we know about the TV series so far…

When was the Twilight reboot announced?

On the 19th April 2023, The Hollywood Reporter announced that a TV version of author Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling book series is in early development with Lionsgate Television.

Lionsgate released the original movies but a new scriptwriter, Sinead Daly (who worked on Tell Me Lies, Raised by Wolves and The Walking Dead: World Beyond) will be determining how they handle the source material on the small screen. Author Stephenie Meyer is also said to be involved.

What have Netflix got to do with the Twilight TV series?

Then, in September 2024, Variety revealed Netflix had won the rights to the new TV series, while also revealing it will be animated. The series will adapt Stephanie Meyer’s novel Midnight Sun, which came out in August 2020, and follows Edward’s version of events.

Because as you might not remember, Twilight was actually from Bella’s perspective, so now it’s time for the vampire to share his side of the story.

The official synopsis for the novel reads:

“This unforgettable tale as told through Edward’s eyes takes on a new and decidedly dark twist. Meeting Bella is both the most unnerving and intriguing event he has experienced in all his years as a vampire. As we learn more fascinating details about Edward’s past and the complexity of his inner thoughts, we understand why this is the defining struggle of his life. How can he justify following his heart if it means leading Bella into danger?”

Who will voice the Twilight TV series?

As of now, we don’t have any information on who will be involved in the series. Seeing as it’s going to be animated, we won’t be seeing anyone reprising the roles of Bella Swan, Edward Cullen and Jacob Black on screen, and instead, it will be about who lend their voices to the cartoon versions.

What is Twilight about?

In case you weren’t a Twilight fan back in the day, over the course of four books (and three companion novels) we see Bella struggle with who to choose: the enigmatic vampire Edward or her best friend Jacob (who just so happens to be Edward’s enemy and a werewolf). It is quite the love triangle, to say the least! Then she has to decide whether to remain human or become immortal. It would be a lot for any high school student, really.

Who else will be counting down the days until it hits our screens?
