Netflix has revealed the first look at an electrifying new action thriller starring Tom Hardy, set to hit our screens in 2025.
The star of Venom and Legend is at the helm of what will be a pulse-pounding film about a detective who embarks on a dangerous mission to pull off a daring rescue.
His journey takes him deep into the criminal underworld, where he discovers a vast conspiracy at the heart of his metropolis.
The film, titled Havoc, is slated for release in 2025 and is directed by Gareth Evans, known for his highly acclaimed martial arts films The Raid and The Raid 2.
Newly released images show Hardy’s character running into explosive action, as well as a glimpse of co-star Jessie Mei Li, of Shadow and Bone fame, the Mirror reports.
The cast includes Timothy Olyphant and Forest Whitaker, along with Justin Cornwell, Quelin Sepulveda and Luis Guzman.
The official synopsis reads: “After a drug deal gone wrong, a damaged detective must fight his way through a criminal underworld to rescue a politician’s estranged son, while unraveling a deep web of corruption and conspiracy that ensnares his entire city .”
Evans’ The Raid films have been hailed as some of the best martial arts masterpieces of this century.
The Guardian has hailed it as “a stone-cold masterpiece”, “one of the best action films ever made” and noted that “in just over a decade, The Raid has established itself as an action film classic.”
Empire magazine was clearly impressed by the intense action of the second film, noting, “There’s a staggering amount of violent action here, doled out in hearty portions and captured with such an unflinching gaze that even the strongest stomach can cramp.
“Bones snap. Necks and knives interact. Heads melt into sausage meat. Evans is a director who never deliberately underplays.”
The franchise has not only captivated critics; it’s also built a devoted fanbase, with one Redditor calling the first film “my favorite action movie.”
They elaborated: “The story flows really well. With ominous overtones and things going from bad to worse, teetering between doom and victory,” and praised its execution: “The fights are super human, using camera angles and top of the line really well. rate fight- o-graphy.”
