If you ever fancy yourself a murder-solving super-sleuth, this hilarious new show from Brighton-based group Murderers Anonymous Theater is for you.
Murder in the mansion is an original whodunnit comedy play performed at the brilliant Lantern Theater (part of ACT Brighton School of Drama) in Kemptown.
Take your seat and get ready to unravel the mystery of who killed the lord of the mansion with Detective Fred Herring and his cohorts at PC World. All actors have a good reason to do the dreaded act. So many alibis are revealed and lies are told as the story unfolds.
Throughout the show, we were treated to plenty of dad jokes, extraordinary fake mustaches, a wandering piece of hair, and a dead guinea pig (okay, we were sad for the guinea pig). We also enjoy light audience participation. Just the right amount to keep this slapstick comedy flowing through its twists and turns.
Speaking of slapstick, we were also amazed at the incredible amount of slaps Red Herring delivered to his hysterical suspects in just one scene. The punches made such a great sound. So satisfying.
Can we also mention the excellent comedic timing and wardrobe costume of the murder victim’s son. Very polite, very considerate. We liked him a lot.
All the Actors were excellent and gave their all, line by line, without missing a beat. It was like a performance hybrid Fawlty Towers meets Agatha Christie meets the game Cluedo.
In short Murder in the mansion is fun, light-hearted and definitely a worthy contender for Brighton Fringe 2025.
But you don’t have to wait that long to see it, because if you’re free this Thursday, you can buy a ticket for their next show.
So put on your best murder-solving gear and head to the Lantern Theater for an evening of sheer mayhem. Was it an angry butler? Was it a French maid? It sure wasn’t us.
