Michelle Tomblin is a Married at first sight a star who is abrasive, judgmental, and downright rude, and shouldn’t have been cast in the series, especially with a guy like David Trimble. David talks about family – he lives with his parents and helps them run their business. He is sensitive enough to be hurt by Michelle’s words and actions. When the so-called experts confronted the two, they must have realized it Michelle had unknown traits that came out.
How could they miss the warning signs? Chances are good they didn’t. They saw the yellow alerts and continued anyway.
The thing is, these signs of trouble were waving in the wind, making it difficult for the couple to ever get on the same page. Experts, Dr. Pepper Schwartz, Rev. Cal Roberson and Married at first sightDr. Pia Holec should be able to evaluate personalities and weed out the most narcissistic ones. However, they seem to be doing just the opposite. Why else are people like Michelle and other notorious villains including Chris Williams still getting screen time? Michelle has a mean streak that any professional should be able to spot right away.
Michelle is on a Troubleshooting mission
He’s always picky
The worst thing about Michelle is her tendency to embarrass David. He has a strong personality and frankly, he doesn’t know how to put a little sugar on it. When she finds fault with her partner David, she must go and protect. He doesn’t do much that gets her approval.
For example, he invited her out to dinner at night, as if it were some kind of crime. He explained that when he was training as an athlete, he used to enjoy meals in the evenings as part of a fitness program. He kept up his habit after he stopped training.
When he criticized her eating habits, it seemed like she was trying to tell him that she wasn’t happy with her body. He’s a good looking man – he’s not super skinny, but does he have to be? In Michelle’s eyes, maybe. He might not fit her idea of what a man should look like. He may hope that the experts, incl Married at first sightPastor Cal Roberon set her up with someone else. Because he is not a merciful person, he shares his “view” of David in a shockingly crude and tactless mannernever consider her feelings.
This is probably the worst red flag. It shows a complete lack of empathy, or close to it. It’s also a bit self-centered – when someone spends their days and nights pointing out someone else’s flaws, they clearly think they don’t have their own. However, no one is flawless. Michelle thinks highly of herself, and her inflated ego means she won’t hesitate to take David down. In fact, she seems to enjoy his mistreatment.
The experts have dropped the ball
Their matches feel absurd
Above, Dr. Pepper brags about helping couples with them “intimate life” but Michelle doesn’t seem to be on fire with passion. Shouldn’t experts notice his intense arrogance? They are trained to look at personalities and put them into categories – to understand people. It seems that training really went out the window before Michelle. He is one of a long line of narcissistic actors who are perhaps (and this is speculation) hand-picked because they set off emotional fireworks on screen.
If experts “seed” actors with egomaniacs who are very likely to be emotionally abusive partners, they are doing a great disservice to gentler actors.
Michelle also doesn’t believe her partner and questions his loyalty. There is an interesting undercurrent here MAFS season, hinting at possible cheating among the cast. The main suspects are David and Madison Meyers. As if this wasn’t enough, Michelle despises her partner for living with her parents and helping them with their family business.
There’s nothing good about this relationship – it’s a war zone, and Michelle is the aggressor, picking fights over just about everything, from David’s supposed immaturity to what he eats to his ex-girlfriend’s name tattoo. That ink is right next to her chest, a constant reminder that there’s one more thing she doesn’t like about her husband. Then there’s the fact that he knows “suffocated” from the man she is married to.
The situation is dire, and the experts deserve some of the blame. They sifted through countless applications and this is what they came up with? Do you associate a “mama’s boy” woman who is bold, determined and not exactly nurturing? It’s like they did whatever it took to create a marriage that is a ticking time bomb.
Married at first sight actors must take responsibility for their shortcomings. However, even the experts fail in a way that calls into question the future of the series. Successful matches are few and far between, and unless experts change the way they pair up, failures can turn off viewers.
Married at first sight airs Tuesdays at 8pm EST on Lifetime.
