The Christmas season is in full swing and in an effort to get London feeling even more jolly, this Japanese noodle house chain wants you to sing festive bangers for your supper. That’s right, Marugame Udon is celebrating the holidays in full swing by hosting Christmas karaoke contests at their locations this festive season.

A good time in Japan is often associated with a night at a karaoke bar, which we wholeheartedly agree with, and to inject more merriment into their noodle houses, Marugame Udon is giving away free food to anyone brave enough to belt out their favourite festive tunes. Take to the stage and channel your inner Mariah, Wham!, or even Bieber for your rendition of any festive bangers and be rewarded with a free portion of Brussels sprout tempura. Any brave vocalist up to the job will also be entered into a draw to win free udon for a year giving you free noods till your heart’s content all year long.

For those who can’t make it to one of the restaurants, fear not as an Instagram or TikTok post tagging Marugame Udon of your Christmas performance will count as an entry too. Both entries in-store and online will be accepted from November 28 to December 24.

Diners will also be able to feast upon Marugame’s Christmas menu, featuring freshly made Festive Udon, available as a meat or vegan option. The limited-edition Christmas special is made with a rich soup base, stuffing balls, pickled red cabbage, Brussels sprout leaves and cranberry and sounds like just the perfect cosy meal for this time of year. So start doing those vocal exercises and start going through your Christmas repertoire, it’s your moment to shine (and get free food).
