“Martin Traynor OBE FIH”

The Institute of Hospitality, in pursuit of Chartered Status, has announced the appointment of Martin Traynor OBE FIH to its Board of Trustees. Traynor, a former Small Business Crown Representative at the UK Government’s Cabinet Office, brings valuable expertise to driving this process forward.

The appointment is a direct response to feedback from Her Majesty’s Most Honorable Privy Council, which highlights the Institute’s limited recognition in government and, in relation to the application for Chartered Status, the need to increase their visibility as the largest global professional organization in the hospitality industry.

Based on his respected reputation and extensive advisory role on the Board, Martin will draw on his expertise and established network to support the Institute in meeting this requirement and progressing towards Chartered Status. This effort represents a central mission to establish the founding Chartered body of the hospitality industry.

Robert Richardson FIH MI, Chief Executive of the Institute, confirmed the appointment: “One of the Hospitality Institute’s strengths is the diverse experience of our Board and our newest Trustee adds to this extensive knowledge gained over many years in the UK Government. . I am delighted to welcome Martin as a Trustee and look forward to working closely together with him.The Institute will greatly benefit from utilizing his expertise in various leadership roles and assist the Institute in its efforts to become an accredited professional body.

Martin will end his remarkable reign on 31 March 2024 after five years dedicated to championing the interests of small businesses in the UK government. Prior to this role, he was a member of HM Government’s Regulatory Policy Committee and held various roles including Vice-Chair at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, Group CEO at Leicestershire Chamber of Commerce and a number of non-executive roles.

Martin’s deep dedication to the hospitality industry dates back many years, adding to his extensive expertise and commitment. With numerous leadership positions in the hospitality industry and his distinguished 27-year tenure as a Fellow of the Institute of Hospitality, he brings a wealth of knowledge and deep-rooted passion to the Board.

Speaking about his new role as a member of the institute’s board, Martin confirmed: “I have been a member for over 40 years and I am delighted to be involved in helping the institute achieve Chartered Status. This is an important next step for the Institute as it recognizes over 85 years of professional support to its members. I look forward to working with Robert and the team to achieve this important goal.
