“Not this time.” Like many aspiring runners hoping to take on the lengthy race in the capital, this was the response I received yesterday (June 26) opening my 2025 TCS London Marathon ballot result email. Who knew three short words could hit so hard? However, all is not lost; those still wanting to take on the challenge of a marathon are in luck as the adidas Manchester Marathon has announced a flash sign-up opening for its 2025 race – and it even falls on the same day as the London Marathon.

With hundreds of thousands of London hopefuls being unsuccessful in their applications, the UK’s second largest marathon is set to welcome a new cohort of participants with open arms in what is anticipated to be the biggest event yet. Manchester Marathon, which will take place on April 27, 2025opened limited allocations on June 26 following the London Marathon ballot result announcement.

Earlier this year, a study named the Manchester Marathon the ultimate marathon in the UK. The race even beat out our own London Marathon, and the Edinburgh Marathon in the rankings. Despite being renowned for its rainy weather, Manchester’s previous marathons have received good running conditionsand it has proven to be a popular choice for runners with around 30,000 participants. Manchester Marathon is also the second most popular marathon in the UK and if you’re looking to achieve a PR the course is relatively flat so that should help.

But you need to be quick! According to Manchester Marathon organisers, yesterday saw one person entering the 2025 race every seven seconds!

With the first two ballot-free allocations having sold out, limited entries into the already popular Allocation 3 are now available. Participants who enter this allocation will receive entry at the cheapest price, before the final allocations open as soon as these places are filled.

All entries will close promptly on Monday 1st Julyso sign-up fast to avoid disappointment. Run, don’t walk, shall we say.

Entry starts from £75 and you can sign-up to the Manchester Marathon here.
