Unlock

Hackney is getting a new pizzeria and it’s from two Neapolitan-born siblings – so we can expect something pretty authentic with this opening. Unlock comes from Arianna and Giovanni Izzo: Arianna is the chef, who previously worked as a pastry chef at Tarallificio Leopoldo in Naples, and she is joined by her brother Giovanni.

Pizzas are the main event there, made from traditional 30-hour leavened dough, and divided into classic and artisan pizzas. They range from a simple Margherita DOP topped with Fior di latte, pacchetelle and fresh basil, to finer combinations such as an aubergine cream with nduja calabrese, provola d’Agerola, fried basil and pacchetelle tomato pizza.

Unlock is located at 1 Monkwood Way, London E3 2EG

Rely

Next month, Marylebone will welcome Lita, a brand new eatery from the team behind Wild Tavern in Chelsea and Canadian-born restaurateur Daniel Koukarskikh. Conceptualized by Irish chef Luke Ahearne, formerly head chef at Corrigan’s Mayfair, the restaurant will unveil a produce-driven, seasonal menu celebrating the flavors of the southern Mediterranean with an exposed kitchen and bar.

Lita is located at 7-9 Paddington Street, London W1U 5QH

Carmel

Brothers Josh and Paul Katz and Mattia Bianchi, the team behind Haggerston’s Berber & Q and Exmouth Market’s Shawarma Bar, are to open a new restaurant in central London. Next month the trio will open in Fitzrovia a follow-up to their hit operation of the same name located between Kilburn and Maida Vale.

The original Carmel launched in late 2021 and has been a huge success ever since. The second establishment will focus on hearty grub from across the eastern Mediterranean, with offerings such as monkfish crudo with sheep’s yoghurt, as well as lamb tartare with amba, pickled cucumber, challah and za’atar.

Carmel is located at 7 Market Place, London W1W 8AG

Three sheets

Founded in 2016 by brothers Max and Noel Venning, the original currently stands in Dalston. Three Sheets has been named by many as one of the best cocktail bars in the capital and has also been praised worldwide.

They are now branching out with a new venture in Soho. Run by the couple and ex-Lyle’s chef and butcher William Blank, it will offer a small menu of alternative British classics, from corned beef sarnies to fresh oysters.

Three Sheets is located at 13 Manette Street, London W1D 4AW

Mochis

Set against the capital’s iconic skyline, Los Mochis is a restaurant elevated high above the bustling streets of Broadgate Circle. And the establishment is now spreading its wings from Notting Hill to the City of London.

Its concept draws inspiration from two incredible food cultures – Mexico and Japan. At the new location, executive chef Leonard Tanyag will lead a menu that includes DIY king crab and wagyu grade five tomahawk steaks.

Los Mochis is located at 100 Liverpool Street, London EC2M 2AT

These days Aperitivo Bar

These days have been popular for their handy on-the-go aperitivo tins and their larger bottles perfect for sharing. Last year they opened a bar right on the Bermondsey Beer Mile, serving up own-brand spirits, aperitifs and plenty of plonk.

And now you can finally grab a bite to eat there: starting Thursday, March 14, their kitchen will offer Asian-influenced small plates designed by former Culpepper chef Gregg Weaver. Expect popcorn clams, chilled trout with rhubarb ponzu, veal with sauerkraut and celeriac with miso and radish.

This winter, the infamous Cheese Bar had partnered with various restaurants to put their own spin on ‘Fondue Thursdays’, which have become a veritable London institution. To end the series, Koya’s Shuko Odo will be the restaurant’s special guest.
