Despite the jokes about Kimmel being the Academy’s last choice, the experienced presenter is clearly seen as a safe pair of hands after last year’s debacle. In an interview with Time magazine, the body’s chief executive Bill Kramer said: “You want someone like Jimmy (Kimmel) on stage who is used to dealing with live TV. Things don’t always go as planned so you have a host in place who can really pivot and manage those moments.”

Who will perform?

Hot on the heels of her 13-minute Super Bowl halftime show performance, Rihanna will take to the stage for only the second time since 2018 with her Oscar-nominated song Lift Me Up which features in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Three other Best Original Song nominees will be performed live on the night: Applause (from Tell It like a Woman) by Sofia Carson and Diane Warren, This Is A Life (from Everything Everywhere All At Once) by David Byrne, Stephanie Hsu and Son Lux and Naatu Naatu (from RRR) by Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava.

Oscars producer Glenn Weiss has confirmed that Lady Gaga will not be taking part in the ceremony due to her filming schedule for Joker: Folie à Deux. Her song Hold My Hand for Top Gun: Maverick is also up for a Best Original Song gong.

Lenny Kravitz has been chosen to perform during the In Memoriam segment.
