At time of writing, microchip supply problems are still restricting imports of Sony’s PS5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X to a trickle. Most gamers will have to wait to find out which of the rival consoles can do the most with their next-generation ray-tracing graphics and lightning-fast processors.

But that’s only part of the story. As everyone knows, no matter how technically impressive the hardware is, gaming consoles are nothing without a library of games to play on them.

Should you get your hands on a PS5, thanks to backwards compatibility with the PS4 there are literally thousands of games available to play on day one. Most new console owners will be looking for native next-gen experiences, though. From Sony-developed exclusives to cross-gen multi-platform blockbusters and next-gen remasters of the best PS4 games, there’s already a surprisingly wide variety of titles to choose from which will do just that.

Here are our choices for the 20 best PS5 games you can play right now. (And if you are preparing to start your next-gen journey with Microsoft, then head over to our best Xbox Series X games.)
