Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Rocksteady’s Arkham series has been, by far, the defining Batman video game adaptation. The London-based studio’s latest takes a swerve from the Dark Knight and casts you as his villains. Be it in co-op or swapping between them in solo, there are four playable Suicide Squad characters –Captain Boomerang, Harley Quinn, Deadshot and King Shark– tasked with stopping the Braniac-brainwashed Justice League destroying Metropolis. (PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, May 26)

Street Fighter 6

The world’s finest fighting series gets its latest major release. Capcom has gone from strength to strength with Street Fighter since SFIV rekindled the series. 6 looks to build on that work with new style mechanics and a diverse roster of perennial favourites (Ryu, Chun Li et al) and new characters  like ninja Kimberly and Chinatown peacekeeper Jamie.
(PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Jun 2)

Diablo IV

Blizzard’s famous dungeon-crawler returns for its first full-fat adventure in over a decade. The maniacal Lilith has returned to cause havoc in Sanctuary and, of course, you are the tooled up fantasy hero to stop her. Naturally there will be plenty of demon-bashing and lovely loot to collect on the way. (PS4/5, Xbox One/Series X/S, PC, Jun 6)

Final Fantasy XVI

The next ‘main’ entry in the long-running JRPG has a dark fantasy twist, as new protagonist Clive sets out on a revenge tour after his kingdom is destroyed by a demon. It will be the first FFXVI to pack a Mature rating as it leans into bloody violence and harsher themes. Whether such a direction can be handled delicately enough to not come across as try-hard remains to be seen, but it is fascinating to see FF head in a direction it has previously only hinted at. (PS5, Jun 22)

Robocop: Rogue City

A character that seems ripe for video game adaptation has had only mixed results in the past but, at first glance, Teyon’s Rogue City looks like capturing that dystopian (and gore-spattered) vibe of Paul Verhoeven’s original film. It is a first-person shooter, but features the voice and likeness of original RoboCop Peter Weller, patrolling the streets of crime-riddled Detroit, in a new story. (PS4/5, Xbox One/Series X/S, PC, Switch, June TBC)

Baldur’s Gate III

The famous Dungeons & Dragons inspired RPG’s third entry has been in early access for a while now, with a largely positive reception, but the final game officially releases later this year. Baldur’s Gate III leans more heavily into its inspiration than previous games, with turn-based combat and adventuring based on DnD’s 5th edition rules as you (and your party) look to fight off the mind flayers’ invasion of Faerun. (PC, August TBC)
